Porto Aperto. Journeys in Art

Type: Exhibition

Date: From 16 May to 7 June 2026

The Galata Museo del Mare hosts “Porto Aperto. Journeys in Art”, a group exhibition bringing together eleven contemporary artists who explore — through different languages and practices — the theme of travel as a physical, mental, and symbolic experience.

The sea as a metaphor of the present

The sea — a place of crossing, encounter, and transformation — becomes a metaphor for the present and a space for reflection on contemporary life. Not just a landscape, but an inner horizon: the same invisible thread that, in the Galata’s storytelling, connects times, peoples, and destinies.

The works engage in dialogue with the context of the Museum of the Sea, intertwining memory and current realities, real and imaginary routes, identity and change. Materials, images, and visions offer visitors new perspectives on our time and on the very meaning of moving, departing, and arriving.

The result is a multifaceted journey, in which each work opens a different route: eleven perspectives that compose a single navigation, returning the complexity of contemporary travel — across the Mediterranean as much as across individual experience.
