We explore one of the globes that occupies scenographically the center of the Hall of Globes and Atlases of the Galata Maritime Museum.
The Globe by Coronelli is a work of art halfway between artistic and scientific, but how was it built?
We discover it through a virtual reconstruction made by the Galileo Museum in Florence.

The second globe of the Hall of Globes and Atlases of the Galata Sea Museum is the celestial one.
How were the first celestial globes born?
To answer the question we have a brief introduction made by the Galileo Museum in Florence.
In his Celestial Globe Coronelli represents the constellations of the firmament and even the motion of the stars should have been represented.

The curator of the naval collections Giovanni Carosio leads us as we explore the Brigantine up close! Let’s discover its secrets: the equipment on board, scientific instruments, cargo holds, sails, and even stories about the crew, what it was like to live and work aboard the ship and what they ate.

The Francesco Leoni Photographic Archive was acquired by the Paolo and Giuliana Clerici Foundation and made available to the Institute of Maritime and Migrations Museum (Mu.MA) so that it can be studied, appreciated and made available within the Galata Maritime Museum.
It is an extraordinary resource for the city of Genoa and Liguria, both in terms of its scope and the themes featured in the collection, like events, customs and politics, as well as the type and substance of the material, which includes over 3 millions images from after WWI to the end of the 1990s.
