Francesco Leoni (1925 – 2000) was one of the most famous Genoese photojournalists of the 20th century. His passion for photojournalism, the engine of unstoppable activity, is reflected in much of his photographic production.
In the 50s he founded the agency Foto Leoni, one of the first in Italy and with many photographic operators. He collaborated with numerous newspapers, national and international, while fulfilling many commitments to the press offices of local and corporate institutions, as well as related to private events.

Inside the Archive there are four other photographic archives acquired by Francesco Leoni himself during his long activity: Metra Archive, Vivenzio Pagano Archive, Castello Archive, Raffin Archive.
Set up in the former educational area of Galata Maritime Museum following the original layout of materials and furnishings.
Visitors (scholars, researchers, citizens interested in personal research) can access it by appointment by writing to archivioleoni@muma.genova.it
Between the material conserved in Archives there are some sections considered strategic for the Mu.MA institution, between which navigation (with the various types of ships), the emigration (in particular from the port of Genoa) and the port of Genoa (with its activity, during the XX-th century).
