At Galata Museo del Mare, a photographic exhibition celebrating the 80th anniversary of CULMV
From 3 to 17 July 2026, Galata Museo del Mare will host Camalli 1946–2026: Our Story, a photographic exhibition marking the 80th anniversary of Compagnia Unica Lavoratori Merci Varie “Paride Batini” (CULMV), one of the organisations most closely associated with the history of the Port of Genoa.
Bringing together archival photographs and contemporary images, the exhibition traces the evolution of dock work from the post-war years to the present day, exploring the profound changes that have transformed Genoa’s waterfront and the role of the camallo – the traditional Genoese dock worker. From sacks carried by hand to today’s container logistics, each photograph reflects the enduring connection between the port, the city and the people who have shaped its history.
More than a record of port labour, the exhibition offers a journey through the history of Genoa, highlighting the values of solidarity, professionalism and collective identity that have defined the Compagnia Unica over the past eighty years. It celebrates a unique human and cultural heritage that remains an integral part of the identity of the Port of Genoa today.
