Con gli occhi di un ragazzo: la Genova di Salvatore Belcastro

Type: Exhibition

Date: From 2 to 27 April 2026

There are many ways to look at a city.
Salvatore Belcastro’s has always been the same: curious, free, full of wonder. Like that of a boy.

From 2 to 27 April 2026, the Saletta dell’Arte at Galata Museo del Mare hosts an exhibition that tells the story of Genoa through his eyes. Not those of an academically trained painter, but of someone who learned by painting, by living, by working.

Belcastro held many jobs — farmer, builder, decorator — yet he never let go of colour. It was always there, ready to resurface whenever it could. In spare moments, in stolen time, in the need to express himself.

His paintings do not strive for perfection. They are alive. They blend different influences, take liberties, even “betray” reality in order to render it more truthfully. Colour is his language: vivid, sometimes unexpected, always sincere.

And then there is Genoa. The sea, the harbour, the boats, the light. Not as a postcard, but as a lived, everyday experience. In his paintings, everything vibrates, moves, shifts.

This exhibition is a simple invitation: to pause for a moment and look at the city differently. With lighter eyes, more open eyes. Perhaps more authentic ones.
