Jump into the Sea

Type: Exhibition

Date: From 19 March to 3 May 2026

The Galata Museo del Mare presents “Jump into the Sea”, an exhibition by Silvia Caimi: a journey that focuses on the instant of the leap and on the sea as a space of transformation, choice, and trust.

One gesture, a thousand meanings

As curator Giammarco Puntelli writes, “the jump is a figure of becoming, a symbolic form of the human journey”: it is not only a physical movement, but an inner passage—an interruption of the previous balance and an act of entrusting oneself to a living, changeable element, never truly controllable.

The sea as an inner horizon

In Silvia Caimi’s works, the sea is not merely a landscape: it becomes a mental horizon, a place of waiting and crossing. The leap is often captured just before impact, when the body is suspended and everything is still possible: that is where the courage to “trust” is measured.

The essentiality of the mark

A distinctive feature of her research is the radical choice to work without colour, on white canvas. In this chromatic subtraction, the tension of the gesture emerges with force: rigorous lines, muscles vibrating, air and water perceived as presences even when they are not explicitly depicted.
