A journey through pigments, history, and sensation
Lapislazzuli Light presents around 20 oil paintings in dialogue with a series of display cases containing the natural pigments used by the artist. Alongside the works, a series of video projections guides visitors through Romanengo’s creative processes — from the gesture on the canvas to the transformation of raw material.
At the heart of the exhibition is lapislazuli, the precious stone that produces one of the most intense and revered blues in the history of art. In Romanengo’s hands, this shade becomes a symbol of Genoa’s light — a city that, over the centuries, welcomed pigments from across the world thanks to its central role in trade with the East.

Lapislazzuli Light is not merely an art exhibition: it is a journey into colour and history, a narrative that runs through Genoa, its trade, its artistic heritage, and its sea. It offers a rare opportunity to witness how an ancient pigment can still, today, become a new form of illumination.
The artist
Laura Romanengo’s painting emerges from the meeting of technical expertise and artistic sensitivity. For years, she worked as a restorer, bringing back to life artworks by masters such as Rubens, Magnasco, Merello, Nomellini, De Chirico, Carrà and many others.
She has collaborated with private collectors, antique dealers, and cultural institutions including Palazzo Bianco, the Museum of Palazzo del Principe, the Naval Museum and the Clerici Collection. This deep knowledge of historical painting is evident in her own works, which combine craftsmanship with expressive freedom.
Her paintings speak of sea, wind, light — but also of inner landscapes and suspended moments. They are abstract, yet instantly recognisable for the intensity of their colour and the sensitivity of their touch.
