What goes on behind the journey of a product? Who are the people, what skills are involved, and what infrastructure make it possible for goods to move from one place to another?

These are the questions at the heart of On the Move. The World Behind Logistics, a photography exhibition by Alessio Franconi, on display at the Galata Museo del Mare in Genoa from 12 November 2026 to 28 February 2027.

A journey into the world of logistics, bringing to light what often remains unseen: the people, work and connections that keep goods and people moving around the world.

Logistics is the intricate, carefully coordinated network that connects points on a map. Every line tells the story of a journey, but also of the companies and people who make it possible. Through his photographs, Alessio Franconi takes visitors behind the scenes of ports and transport infrastructure, capturing the dynamism of global transport and the meeting point between tradition, innovation and technology.

The exhibition features 36 photographic works, each accompanied by the photographer’s own captions. Selected images are complemented by QR codes, allowing visitors to watch video clips filmed during his photographic assignments.

The photographs explore logistics from every angle: from major infrastructure projects and scientific research to leading industries, international coordination, and the crucial issues of security and defence.

The photographic project received the “Il Logistico dell’Anno 2025” award, presented by AssoLogistica, in recognition of its innovative contribution to promoting awareness and understanding of the logistics sector.

Alessio Franconi is a photographer, writer and lawyer. His work has been published by Ulrico Hoepli, laFeltrinelli and Morellini Editore, as well as in National Geographic, Corriere della Sera, Schiffer Publishing, Panorama and Montagne360.

Since 2015, he has held fifty solo exhibitions across Italy and Europe. Through his project In viaggio! The World Behind Logistics, he explores the essential role logistics plays in the contemporary world.

Galata Museo del Mare provides a particularly fitting setting for this exhibition, with its themes closely connected to the museum’s own story. The museum explores the relationship between the sea and the people who have travelled across it, as well as the shipping routes and activities that have connected places and communities throughout history.

After discovering On the Move, visitors can continue their journey through the museum’s galleries, exploring stories of navigation, ports and international trade.
