Arsenal: the galley on the port of call
The visitor is “face to face” with the galley, placed on the original launching slide. During the bad season sailing was not recommended and galleys were pulled dry and disarmed in the arsenals. The ship on display is the precise reconstruction of a seventeenth-century Genoese galley, the result of a three-year research. The large red bow spur welcomes the visitor, who is surrounded by the sounds of the past: the cries of the shipwrights and those of the calafati, the noise of the work tools. Through an opening on the left side of the galley, you can climb aboard and explore the interior and discover the life on board, putting yourself in the shoes of a member of the crew: slave, forced or buonavoglia.
