Christopher Columbus, a Genoese sailor?

Christopher Columbus – as far as we know – has never been portrayed by a painter. On the contrary, classical iconography often represents it. The portrait painted by Ridolfo, son of Domenico Bigordi known as Ghirlandaio (1483-1561), is the image that with time has established itself in the collective imagination as the face of the Navigator.
The room displays models and instruments designed by the Captain of Albertis on the occasion of the Anniversary of the discovery of America in 1892.
Colombo made 4 trips to America: a large model helps to retrace them. They were not improvised journeys; nothing was left to chance, but on the contrary everything carefully planned: the fact that the sailors managed to go and return repeatedly to the same places proves this.
