The brig “Anna”
The «brig» appeared in the second half of the nineteenth century and emerged from the Napoleonic Wars as a solid boat, fast, maneuverable but also capable of good loading. Hundreds will be built on the beaches of the peninsula. With two or three trees – in this case it is called «brigantine a palo» – it can be operated by 10-15 sailors, depending on the size. His name in dialect was scuna, deformation of _ schooner_ in english. These boats exercised the so-called «flying navigation», without regular routes, carrying the most diverse cargoes to the freight (tariff) that the captain – not infrequently also owner – managed to tick off with customers. Ours is of the type «brig-schooner», characterized by two trees, of which the stern armed with Latin sails, that is triangular.
