This section intends to make a modest contribution to the reflection on the theme of contemporary migration. The salient episodes are traced from 1973 – the year in which for the first time in decades – the Italian migration balance was positive (were more immigrants than emigrants); then using elements of statistics, demography, economy, sociology, the exhibition addresses the theme in a scientific but at the same time empathetic, through many “life stories”, video of landings and a “boat” landed in Lampedusa in 2011: it, “saved” from demolition thanks to a project of this Museum, reminds us of the thousands of deaths in the “journeys of hope”, as well as the many who strive to save the greatest number.
